For every single access to a network (including the internet), your computer has to convert the names of web sites and other computers in to a network address. What Web Visor does is intercept known names of web sites that just show adverts and pop-ups, and replace their network address with a dummy address.
Because the dummy address is instantly known by your computer you don't spend any time looking for sites that don't exist, and even better, because the web site cannot be found, you don't spend any time downloading adverts that you don't want to see!
And most sites seem to show all the adverts before their own content, so you'll see the information you wanted to see, quicker - and in the case of pay-as-you-go internet access - cheaper!
Got Broadband (ADSL) and think that it's not worth bothering because you'd hardly notice the speed difference? Well, what about all those cookies tracing you, the adverts themselves are stored on your computer filling up your hard-drive. Not to mention just being annoying to look at.
Depending on how the advert was supposed to be displayed, you may see either blank spaces in the web pages, like this:
Or - more likely - an error page from your web browser.
For example, the adverts may be replaced with either the following (for embedded
pictures): 
Or more likely, the following (for embedded web pages when using Internet Explorer):
This is perfectly OK, as the browser is just trying to tell you that it can't find the advert web site (i.e."www.annoying-adverts-r-us.com") anymore. Which is exactly what we want!
More than likely you won't see the whole of the picture above, but something like just a small window - or multiple windows... for each one you see, be happy that you haven't downloaded an advert!
Because Web Visor uses built-in technology, there is nothing extra that runs on your computer, so you don't need to worry about what memory it uses, or what processor speed you'll need - what you're using right now, is fine!
And it will work with every single network software in existence: Netscape, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, something-new-we-don't-know-of-yet, even DOS applications, ping, tracert, etc!
The only time you'll ever need to run the Web Visor program, is to connect to our site and check for an updated list of sites to block (which is the picture shown at the top). Once you're updated, the program can be closed.
Cost
At the moment, the software is FREE!!! so download it here.
The reason that it's Free, is that we have only just developed this software, and the list of blocked sites is small (currently <100), and we might block a site that you actually want access to, so we'll be looking for your comments (here) .
We've tried to only limit the most annoying advert sites, so you should start to notice the effects quite soon.
We are also anticipating adding Adult sites to the list, as a form of protection for young-eyes - and it's cheaper than content monitoring software!
We are also hoping to remove the "error" message for blocked web sites, with something more pleasing to the eye... like a blank window. This is still on-going!
